Getting Started on LearnFree
When learners visit learnfree.org, they land on a homepage designed to highlight the main parts of the platform. This landing page acts as a starting point and allows users to navigate to different areas of LearnFree.
Learners can browse freely, but creating an account unlocks progress tracking and a more personalised experience.
Why Learners Create an Account
All LearnFree accounts are free.
Accounts allow learners to:
- Track progress across challenges, courses, and tutorials
- Continue where they left off using the Continue Watching section
- Receive structured recommendations based on what they complete
- Creating an account is optional, but strongly recommended for anyone planning to return to the platform regularly.
Choosing a Goal
After signing up, learners are invited to select a goal. Goals are structured learning paths designed to support a specific outcome.
Examples of goals include:
- Grow your career
- Learn Google and Microsoft tools
- Get better with tech
- Be more creative
Each goal groups together challenges, courses or tutorials, articles, and tasks into a guided journey.
It is important to note that selecting a goal is optional. Learners can skip this step entirely and still access all content on LearnFree.
The Homepage Experience
Once signed in, learners are taken to a personalised homepage.
Here they may see:
- Their selected goal and suggested next steps
- Active challenges displayed at the top
- A Continue Watching section showing any courses or tutorials already started
For learners who do not select a goal, the homepage still functions as a central place to continue learning and access recently viewed content.
Main Navigation Overview
The main navigation bar at the top of the site helps learners move between key areas of LearnFree.
Explore: The Main Way to Find Content
For many learners, Explore will be the primary way they use LearnFree.
The Explore section is designed for open exploration and direct access to content, without needing to follow a structured goal.
When a learner selects Explore, they are shown the main content categories on LearnFree. These categories organise content by topic, making it easier to browse and discover what is available.
Within Explore, learners can:
- Choose a specific content category, such as Google and Microsoft tools, technology, or internet skills
- View all related courses, tutorials, challenges, and articles within that category
- Use the built in search function to find specific topics or skills
Each content category includes its own search bar. This means learners can search within a topic area rather than across the entire site, which is especially useful when looking for something specific.
Explore allows learners to:
- Jump directly into a course or tutorial without selecting a goal
- Browse and compare content before committing to anything
- Use LearnFree as a reference library for ongoing learning
Learners can use Explore exclusively and never select a goal, and still get full value from the platform.
Home
The Home section acts as a personalised dashboard.
Here learners will find:
- Quick actions related to any goal they have selected
- A Continue Watching section for active courses or tutorials
Home is most useful for learners who want to quickly resume where they left off.
Goals
The Goals section shows all available goals on LearnFree.
From here, learners can:
- Start a new goal
- Continue an existing goal
- Remove a goal by selecting it, scrolling to the bottom, and choosing remove
Goals provide structure and guidance, but they are not required to use the platform.
Activity
The Activity section is an overview of learning progress.
Here learners can see:
- Their activity streak
- Habit tracking linked to goals
- Days they have been active
- A progress area to jump back into completed or in progress content
This section helps learners visualise consistency and track long term progress.
About and Resources
The About and Resources sections contain informational pages about LearnFree and additional support material. These sections are optional and are not required for everyday learning.
Burger Menu Options
The burger menu provides quick access to personal and saved content.
Options include:
- Profile: Account details and settings
- Favourites: Content the learner has liked or saved
- Goals: Current and available goals
- Progress: Courses or tutorials already started
- Logout: Sign out of the account
The Favourites section is particularly useful for saving content to revisit later.
Types of Content on LearnFree
LearnFree offers three main types of content.
Challenges
Challenges are structured, time based learning experiences, often shown as 28 day challenges.
They:
- Follow a fixed order
- Are made up of daily lessons
- Must be completed sequentially
Challenges are commonly linked to goals and focus on building habits and long term skills.
Courses and Tutorials
Courses or tutorials are made up of multiple lessons and offer more flexibility.
Lessons may include:
- Text based explanations
- Audio or video content
- Downloadable practice files
Learners can move through these at their own pace.
Articles
Articles are short, focused pieces designed for quick learning.
They:
- Usually take around 5 minutes to complete
- Cover a single topic or idea
- Work well as quick references or refreshers
Understanding Content Indicators
Across all content types, learners will see indicators such as:
- Estimated completion time
- Difficulty level rated out of 5
- Average user rating
These help learners choose content that suits their time, confidence, and experience level.
Final Notes
LearnFree is designed to support different learning styles. Some learners will prefer structured goals, while others will mainly use Explore to find content freely.
Both approaches are supported, and learners can switch between them at any time.
